With the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple will probably make the notch disappear and replace it with a hole and a pill. More is not possible yet, because Face ID is a bit more complex in terms of technology and cannot yet migrate under the display.
Face ID will probably become invisible in 2023
But according to The Elec, we don’t have to wait long for this step, because Apple probably wants to take this step with the iPhone 15 Pro. The front-facing camera might stay, but the Face ID broad pill might go away.
Theoretically, it would be possible to also pack the front camera under the display, which some manufacturers like Samsung are already doing. But currently, the quality is rather modest and Apple probably doesn’t want that.
We’ve heard before that Face ID is going under the display, and it was even mentioned in 2022. So I’m surprised that Apple is bringing an interim solution with a hole + pill if it disappears again next year. Maybe that’s the solution for the “normal” Apple iPhone 15.
