Google Play Store on the way to becoming a pure app store – now movies and series are out

Google TV handles movies and series. Google is thus focusing the Play Store even more on apps and games for the web and Android. It’s been a while since we recommended a necessary change or conversion to the Google Play Store. Google has now announced further steps in this direction.

As early as May of the current year, the Google Play Store is said to lose access and offers for films and series. Google TV for Android will be home to this content in the future.

The Google Play Store is thus taking another step in the direction of being a pure app store – ten years after its introduction. Now only the books have to be thrown out, for which, as is well known, there is also a dedicated app. Everything else, such as the Newsstand, has long since been removed from the Play Store.

Google TV completely takes over tasks for films and series

Of course, you still have all the films and series you have rented and bought to date available in your Google TV app, even after the conversion mentioned has been completed.

Starting in May 2022, the Google TV app will be your home for buying, renting, and watching movies and shows on your Android mobile device or tablet. On the Google Play app, Movies & TV will no longer be supported.

Google Play will continue to be your store for apps, games, and books. On Google TV, you will find the same experience you are used to on Google Play Movies & TV with the latest new releases, rentals, deals, and great recommendations for you.

As a reminder, as of late 2020, Google TV is not only the newer graphical user interface for Android TV OS but also the official heir to the Google Play Movies & TV app on Android mobile devices.
