Google is proud of the smart camera features of the Pixel series. But does everything that Google advertises really reach the user in everyday life? Among other things, Google has announced “Face deblur” for its new 6th generation Pixel phones.
By using multiple frames, the software is able to display shaky faces sharply afterward. However, not only esteemed colleagues notice that this feature is extremely rarely noticed. I also have to say that I’ve probably never seen face focus before.
Here’s how Google advertises the feature on the Pixel 6 homepage:
Google promises “razor-sharp faces – thanks to pixels”
As young parents, we take a lot of photos of our children in motion. A few examples that I picked out manually from the last few months were not automatically focused. I can’t remember that this feature ever worked either. The experiences on this are different, as you can see from some of the comments.
I’ve been taking photos with the Pixel 6 Pro for months, and today was the first time I ever saw Face Unblur finally kick in.
Face Unblur is one of the top features Google highlights in marketing, yet it’s practically nonexistent in real life. pic.twitter.com/u9Nnt25XMA
