Windows 11 optimizes the taskbar tray experience to be more in line with the overall style of the system

In the newly released preview of Windows 11 Build 22581, Microsoft has modified the experience of the system tray icons to be consistent with the rest of the operating system.

If you’re currently running the stable version of Windows 11, you should see the old visual style that’s been used in Windows 10 when you hover over the Show hidden icons button on the taskbar.

In the latest version, Microsoft optimized the pop-up window to look more modern, and Microsoft will further improve the experience of other details of the system tray.

Microsoft explains: “The keyboard focus and mouseover state for Win32 system tray icons and ‘show hidden icons’ have been updated to better match other visual styles of the taskbar.

You may also notice that drag and drop is no longer supported. Pin/Unpin these items — you can show/hide these icons by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting ‘taskbar settings’. We’ve also introduced an optional setting to completely hide the ‘show hidden icons’ button, supporting Those who want a simpler taskbar”
