Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expects the next iPad Pro model to launch this fall. In his Power On newsletter, Gurman speculated that since Apple didn’t unveil a new iPad Pro at this month’s Peek Performance event, it’s now reasonable to expect the new model to arrive between September and November this year.
In a previous report, Gurman said that Apple is planning to launch “the wildest series of new hardware products in its history” in the fall of 2022, and this batch of new releases now looks increasingly likely to include updated iPad Pro models.
Past iPad Pro models have been launched in March 2016, June 2017, October 2018, March 2020, and April 2021, which means Apple typically takes 13 to 16 months to update the product String. Gurman’s expectations seem to point to a longer time frame for this year’s iPad Pro, which he speculates could be 19 months after the current model’s release. It also means that the current 2021 iPad Pro could be one of the longest-lived models to date.
There have been few rumors about the next iPad Pro in recent months, and he expects the new iPad Pro models to support MagSafe charging, as well as an “M2” chip. The M2 chip is expected to have the same 8-core CPU as the M1, but benefit from TSMC’s 4nm process for improved speed and efficiency. It is also rumored to have additional GPU cores, with 9- and 10-core GPU options, up from the 7- and 8-core M1 chips.
