Ming-Chi Kuo: iPhone 14 Pro’s larger camera array is a new 48-megapixel camera system

TF Securities Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the rear camera arrays of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max continue to grow in size due to the new 48-megapixel wide-format camera system. In a tweet, Ming-Chi Kuo responded to a leaked schematic recently shared by Max Weinbach.

The schematic shows that the rear camera module of the iPhone 14 Pro model will increase by about 5%, from a width of 35.01mm to 36.73mm and a height of 36.24mm to 38.21mm. The bumps themselves will also further thicken the device, from 3.6mm on the iPhone 13 Pro to 4.17mm.

“The main reason why the camera bump is bigger and more prominent” is due to the “upgrade of the rear camera to 48 megapixels”. He added that the diagonal length of the iPhone’s contact image sensor (CIS) will increase to 25 to 35 percent with the jump to 48 megapixels. Likewise, the height of the camera lens system will increase by 5 to 10 percent.

Along with replacing the bangs with a new pill + hole-punch TrueDepth front-facing camera array design, the 48-megapixel wide-format camera is one of the most widely rumored features of the iPhone 14 Pro, which Ming-Chi Kuo and Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu have mentioned several times. The 48-megapixel camera is expected to be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models and allow for 8K video recording, a notable upgrade over the iPhone 13 Pro’s 12-megapixel camera and 4K video recording capabilities. These high-resolution 8K videos are also said to be suitable for viewing on Apple’s long-rumored AR/VR headset.
