Google Play Store: Apps may soon offer third-party payment providers

Google is now actively approaching the app developers and would like to open the Play Store to other payment providers. Google is starting a pilot project, which is very likely the future.

First, they are testing exclusively with Spotify that app providers not only have to offer Google Play app billing but can also use their own providers. This has long been demanded by politicians, providers such as Google or Apple should relax their app store restrictions.

For Google, of course, fees go by the wayside. It must also be ensured that the apps refer to secure payment providers. Therefore, the new system initially starts as a test and this is limited to Spotify. However, it is a matter of time before Google expands this test and opens up completely to all other app developers.

Google pushed by politicians and app developers

In recent years, for example, there has been a major dispute with Epic Games. They didn’t want to pay any fees to Google and therefore offered their popular Fortnite in their own store, which was not available through the Google Play Store. But that was bad for effective marketing. For Android developers, the Play Store is very important.
