After nine months of trying the feature, YouTube has disabled the experimental picture-in-picture mode of its iOS app. YouTube enabled picture-in-picture on iOS in August 2021 as an “experimental” feature of the app. By April 2022, YouTube seems to have decided that it’s not worth keeping the feature.
Currently, the experimental picture-in-picture feature has been removed from the experimental options. There is also no option to enable or disable the feature in the app, and the website says it has been “turned off.”
Some users who previously enabled the feature can still use Picture-in-Picture, but it is not known whether it will still be available in the future.
Picture-in-picture features have only been available to premium subscribers since its launch in 2021. The YouTube TV app has also turned on the picture-in-picture function since March, and it is unclear whether it will also go offline.
