With Samsung Galaxy smartphones you can open more and more cars

Chips with Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology are becoming increasingly common among Samsung’s smartphones and, therefore, it is no wonder that the Korean giant is working to take advantage of this additional functionality, thus guaranteeing those who choose one of its devices an increasingly rich and exclusive experience.

Recall that this technology allows, for example, to improve the accuracy of object tracking systems and is able to transform a smartphone into a real digital key to open your car.

Samsung’s Digital Key Supports New Models

Initially this last feature was supported only by Genesis GV60 but the Korean giant promised that it would expand the list of cars that can exploit it and it seems that in the past few hours important progress has arrived in this regard.

According to TizenHelp, in fact, the functionality of the digital key can now also be exploited with some of the vehicles of two other large car manufacturers such as BMW and Kya. Among the new vehicles that support this function we find the following:

  • BMW series 1 to 8
  • BMW X5 to X7 series
  • BMW Z4
  • BMW i4
  • BMW IX3
  • BMW IX
  • Kia Niro
  • Genesis G90

As for the Genesis GV60 and G90, both UWB and NFC modes are supported on both models, while for all the other cars on the list only NFC mode is supported.

With the digital key feature, Samsung users can lock or unlock their car, open the trunk, start the engine, and adjust the seats and mirrors.

At the moment the Digital Car Key function only works on some Samsung models: the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip3 and the Galaxy S22 series.
