TikTok is now the world’s most downloaded app of the year. According to a report released Thursday by analyst firm Sensor Tower, the social media app has been downloaded more than 176 million times since the beginning of 2022, making TikTok the fifth app to reach more than 3.5 billion total downloads.
Since the beginning of 2018, no other app has had more total downloads than TikTok. The second most downloaded app is Instagram, which has about 151 million downloads. Instagram was previously the most downloaded app. In Asia, Instagram still maintains its position as the most downloaded app.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, accounted for three of the top five most downloaded apps. Instagram and Facebook are the most downloaded apps in the Google Play Store.
