There are several possible ways why the Android operating system might no longer be in Google’s firm hands at some point. If you think about it, there is directly a candidate who would continue the operating system very well. In the past, one would probably have answered differently. But nowadays, Samsung would most likely be the most obvious takeover candidate for the Android ecosystem.
Google could get new problems with politics
Why may Android not always be under google’s flag? Well, there is political pressure, for example. Many politicians do not like the current duopoly. In addition, Android is open source, but in the Western world, there is basically no Android without Google. Google has a very firm grip on the ecosystem and its partners. Also a good point for the fact that politics could think about smashing.
Last but not least, Google has a completely new operating system in the back of its hand with Fuchsia. Today, it is still very far from powering a current smartphone. But who knows what the plans will look like in five or ten years? So if there is a split of any kind, Android might need new leadership. And who would be better suited than Samsung?
Samsung Galaxy is almost the better Google Pixel
Google has been working extremely closely with Samsung for quite some time. For Android, Google has now copied some Samsung features. Even the design of Android 12 is partly copied from Samsung. In addition, Samsung is now the first point of contact for Wear OS, has thrown away the mobile Tizen and the Galaxy Watch 4 the only exclusive Smartwatch with Wear OS 3 in the trade.
And there’s Samsung’s update guarantee, which even surpasses Google Pixel’s warranty for many of the Galaxy smartphones. Samsung has recently repeatedly appeared as a strong partner and also as a pioneer. I know not everyone wants to hear that. In my opinion, Samsung could continue to run Android like no other major manufacturer.
