Switching to Android 12 has been a difficult process for multiple lines of Android phones, including withdrawn updates and occasional bugs. Still, just in terms of Google’s flagship Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices, the number of issues we’ve seen is surprising.
Today, Google announced that the May 2022 Update for Pixel devices has begun rolling out. It fixes an issue people found on Pixel 6 phones after the March update, where notifications’ vibrations were suddenly a lot weaker.
Two fixes apply to all Pixel devices from Pixel 3a to 6, address an issue that could cause the display to wake up without interaction, and an issue that could crash the launcher, but one line only applies to Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro: Improved haptic feedback for certain conditions and use cases.

Interestingly, many people say they actually prefer weaker vibration notifications, but since Google didn’t acknowledge this in response to posts on Reddit and its support forums, we’re not sure if this was an intentional change. What can be confirmed is that after installing the update on the Pixel 6, users are now able to adjust the intensity to their liking in the settings menu, and the vibration at max is indeed much stronger than before.
The May 2022 Pixel update will continue its phased rollout next week, and users can also sideload it to the device in advance using the web-based Android Flash tool or manually from the Command Prompt. Of course, these steps should only be followed if you’re willing to accept some risk to your device, and if you’re not in a hurry, just keep waiting.
