Two of the most interesting upcoming folding smartphones, namely Google’s Pixel Fold (or Notepad?) And Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, will have at least one point in common: the diagonal of the internal display will be the same, even if the format will be a lot different. Ross Young of DSCC, the consulting / leak company that focuses precisely on displays (the acronym actually means Display Supply Chain Consultant) claims this.
For the moment the exact value of the diagonal has not been disclosed: Young says he will talk about it in more detail next week during a conference of his company. However, it is worth remembering that both in Z Fold 2 and in Z Fold 3 the screen is 7.6 “, while on Z Fold 1 it was 7.3”; let’s say that according to what we have learned so far, it is realistic to expect the amplitude will not be very different.
For now, however, it has been confirmed that the Pixel Fold’s screen will be much lower; Google, therefore, seems to have adopted an approach more similar to that of Oppo with its Find N, a format that among other things has definitely convinced us and is very comfortable and manageable.
Z Fold 4 and Google foldable will have similar sized foldable displays, but the Google cover display will be quite a bit smaller at 5.8″. This should mean it will have a wider aspect ratio than the Samsung 6.19″ Fold 4. Hear more at our conference next week.

This radical difference in formats will, as you can imagine, also be reflected on the external display. According to Young, the one in Pixel Fold will have a diagonal of 5.8 “, but it will be much wider than that of Z Fold 4, whose diagonal should be 6.2” (equal to Z Fold 3, therefore). We expect a few more details for next week, but already now Young has anticipated another juicy detail: thanks to its construction, the internal display of the Pixel Fold should not show visible signs at the point where it folds.
We know more or less for sure, even just looking at past years, that Galaxy Z Fold 4 will arrive towards the second half of 2022; for Pixel Fold, however, there are fewer certainties. Given the many confirmations, even from Google itself, it is now practically certain that the smartphone exists and is under development, but for now few have felt like unbalancing on the release date. The most accredited thesis is at the end of the year. In a very short time, during the I / O 2022, new Pixel products should arrive, but it is very unlikely that there will also be the folding.
