Wear OS SOS function

Google will soon make users feel safer with a Wear OS smartwatch. At its I/O conference, it announces that you will soon be able to call an emergency number from your wrist. It concerns the SOS function of Android that is now also being extended to smartwatches .

Google isn’t sharing all the details about how the feature works yet. We do know that it works with the SOS function and you can use it to call an emergency number of, for example, a friend or family member. Another option is to call 112.

It is not yet clear whether you activate the emergency calling on your watch via an app or a shortcut. On Android phones, there is the option to automatically call an emergency contact if you press the power button five times in quick succession. We recently also wrote based on tips from readers that things can sometimes go wrong with such shortcuts.

Earthquakes

Google will also improve the earthquake warnings in Android. Google is going to use data from our phone’s accelerometer to determine if an earthquake is happening so that alerts and alerts can be spread more quickly. That extra time gives people the chance to get themselves to safety. If you are on a ladder, you will quickly go down and look for shelter.
