There are now just a few hours left for the highly anticipated keynote that will kick off Google I / O 2022, an event in which the Mountain View giant will also unveil many of the news regarding Android 13, the next version of the company’s mobile operating system.
In recent weeks, thanks to the Developer Preview versions released by Google, we have had the opportunity to get an idea of the main changes that Android 13 will bring with it but there will also be many small innovations to take into account and one of these concerns, for example, a new tool for selecting images.
The new Android 13 photo picker is coming
According to what is learned from the official changelog, with Google’s May system update, a “New developer service and user experience was also implemented to allow users to select specific photos or videos to share with an ‘app instead of granting permission to all multimedia files on the device ” and the reference is precise to the new “ photo picker ” of Android 13.

Android 13 includes support for a new photo selection tool. This tool offers users a secure and integrated way to select media files, without having to grant the app access to the entire media library.
Furthermore, always on the page dedicated to the new photo selector, we read that “the next Google Play system updates should include new features related to the photo selector” and it is specified that “I none of these updates, the library will add support for apps targeting Android 11 (API level 30) or later (excluding Android Go devices) “.
At this point it is likely that the new photo selector as well as on Android 13 will also be implemented on previous versions of the Google OS , thus guaranteeing users a higher level of security and imposing new limits on individual apps that they cannot exceed.
