Does the Google Pixel 6a have a better in-display fingerprint sensor?

There was very loud criticism of the fingerprint sensor for the Pixel 6 smartphones. Not the best technology and is too slow. Is that different in the Pixel 6a? When asked by American media, Google confirmed that the sensor in the cheaper Pixel 6a will be different. However, one very important question will remain unanswered until the first test reports, which will not come until the summer (July).

Is this new sensor better?

Google says it’s definitely a different fingerprint sensor. So not the model that is in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Google, on the other hand, cannot be elicited whether the new sensor is better or faster. Because it’s not advertised, I think it’s unlikely. I believe that Google installed a new sensor for other reasons. But not because it is faster or performs better in general.

Existing customers of the Pixel a series will have to get used to it

My thesis: Although the Google Pixel 6a can be unlocked in a “more modern” way thanks to the sensor in the display, it is definitely slower than the predecessors. Another article of ours was about exactly that. Google changed position, robbing a feature that was popular with previous generations. However, existing customers will certainly get used to this quickly if they switch from an older model to the Pixel 6a.

As with the regular Pixel 6, the fingerprint sensor is the only biometric method for unlocking the devices. We continue to expect Face-Unlock via update exclusively for the Pixel 6 Pro and for its successor in the fall.
