Industry analysts predict Nintendo will launch Switch 2 in 2024

Industry analysts predict Nintendo will launch the Switch 2 in 2024. In an investor memo seen by well-known gaming media Video Games Chronicle (VGC) last week, analyst Piers Harding-Rolls said: “Ampere currently predicts that the next generation of Nintendo devices will be released in 2024.”

By the end of 2024, the Switch is projected to sell 146 million units,” the memo reads. This means it could still be the best-selling console of all time by the end of its lifespan, surpassing the PlayStation 2 (158 million units).

Nintendo sold just 13.5 million Wii U consoles in total. Meanwhile, the original Wii sold over 101 million units, and the Switch has surpassed that number. Last week, Nintendo reported that it has now sold more than 107 million Switch consoles, placing it right behind the PS4 on the list of the best-selling consoles of all time.

Ampere Analytics predicts that sales will start to slow in the coming months. As noted by Harding-Rolls, Nintendo forecasts 21 million Switch shipments between April 2022 and March 2023. That’s 2 million fewer than the 23 million it sold in the previous fiscal year. The analyst does believe that the upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel will prompt some Switch owners to upgrade to the OLED model. Even so, Switch sales should be down year-over-year.
