According to a lawsuit filed by the state of California against Apple, in 2020, a 12-year-old boy was caused by hearing a loud Amber alarm while wearing AirPods headphones and Damaged his eardrum.
The child, identified by the initials “BG.” in court documents, was watching a movie on Netflix on his iPhone while wearing AirPods Pro when the Amber Alert went off in 2020. He allegedly turned the volume down on the AirPods Pro, but the Amber Alert went off without warning, causing a loud noise that damaged the boy’s eardrums.
Amber Alert ripped apart BG, the lawsuit says. the eardrum damaged his cochlea and caused his hearing loss. Since then, he has suffered a rash of dizziness, ringing in the ears and nausea, as well as permanent hearing loss in his right ear, requiring a hearing aid.
In the lawsuit, Apple is accused of producing faulty AirPods that don’t automatically lower alert volume or balance notification and alert volumes. The lawsuit accuses Apple of failing to warn of potential problems and claims the company knew about the design flaws and did nothing.
The lawsuit states that the direct result of Apple’s negligent attitude in designing, manufacturing and selling defective AirPods is, BG. Suffered severe temporary and permanent, lasting injury, pain and suffering, disability and impairment.
