Apple iPhone is UK’s mobile king, Google Pixel in top five

It’s no secret that Apple’s iPhone sales are booming, but new data shared by IDC’s Francisco Jeronimo includes tidbits that may surprise many. First, it’s important to remember that these figures are for the UK, so are not applicable to global markets.

In the UK, Apple is clearly the number one mobile phone brand, with the iPhone accounting for 23.931 million of all mobile devices sold in the UK in the first quarter of this year. That means the Cupertino-based tech giant has a 48.4% market share in the UK, so one in every two smartphones sold in the country is an iPhone.

Samsung followed, unsurprisingly, was the runner-up, with the South Korean multinational selling 15.761 million phones in the UK for a market share of over 31%.

The third brand is Nokia, which sold 2.1 million units in the first quarter of this year. Google also made the top five, with the company selling 1.639 million Pixel phones in the UK, so it now has a 3.3% market share in the UK.

It’s important to know that Google is limiting the supply of the Pixel to a handful of markets, a decision that has long been criticized by outside users. Buying a Pixel in many countries is quite difficult.

OPPO is currently No. 4 on the list, with total sales of no less than 2.059 million phones in the first quarter of this year.
