Apple improves Studio Display webcam effects: skin tones are no longer reddish

In beta version 3 of macOS Monterey, Apple has further improved the stability and display of the Studio Display webcam. AppleInsider measured it and found that the image quality does seem to have improved.

To ensure fairness, the medium placed the Studio Display in our production studio to ensure consistent lighting and surroundings. Although some video was shot in the FaceTime app QuickTime and Zoom using the Studio Display’s webcam.

As you can see from testing, Apple has significantly improved skin tone performance. The skin tone was redder before the update, and the color was more natural after the update. And the details don’t look like noise, and the media believes that Apple has reduced the noise through additional smoothing measures.

After the update, the Center Stage is less aggressive after the update. It doesn’t fit snugly on the face but leaves more room above our heads. It’s hard to say whether this is good or bad, but for the average consumer, it is desirable to be able to have custom control over it.

Although the quality of the camera has improved, the improvement is more of a software level. So these improvements may not be noticeable to the average user, and unless you compare them side-by-side, it’s hard to spot the difference.
