Pixel: Google pre-empts leaks, which is kind of a bad idea

Hardly any other manufacturer has leaks in such a blatant form as Google. The manufacturer defends itself against this in an unusual way and simply shows pixel hardware itself. But of course, we ask ourselves how useful this strategy really is for Google?

Pixel Watch: Leaks more than a year earlier, official material half a year

The first images from the Google Pixel Watch were available a year earlier. The first official images from Google followed this May. It’s similar to the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The first images leaked very early on, but Google itself has now officially published the first material five months before the release of the new smartphones.

Google diminishes interest in current devices

That might not be smart after all, as it might diminish interest in the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Anyone who does not necessarily need a new smartphone immediately can wait for the new models. We already know very roughly what to expect in autumn. The current devices, which have sold well so far, are perhaps therefore now being left in larger numbers.

Pixel Tablet is arguably the earliest official announcement ever

The fact is that Google’s handling of leaks is very unusual. On the one hand, leaks have often taken a very unusual path, on the other hand, Google reacts to them at least as unusually. This has gone so far that Google is already showing its own Pixel Tablet for 2023 in May 2022, even before the first leaks and seven months before next year.

Although it should be known that new devices do not appear until three months before the market launch, this very long public lead time is also harmful in other ways. Especially when the new hardware looks as sobering as the Pixel Tablet at first glance. This can also give the impression that people shouldn’t wait for this device in the first place.
