During his long and honored career, which we remember having roots in 1981 on the occasion of the release of the first, legendary Donkey Kong, the most famous videogame plumber in the world has met a huge amount of new characters, including the greedy and strong Wario. In this regard, what is the relationship that binds the latter to Super Mario?
Although the similarity of the two designs may suggest some kind of kinship, Wario and Super Mario are not related, but simple rivals since their childhood. The antagonist dressed in yellow was in fact thought of as an anti-hero in contrast to the immaculate figure of Mario, debuting for the first time in 1992 in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (the seventh game of the overall franchise, released on Game Boy).
To give further confirmation on the actual relationship that binds the two characters, we also find the statements of the director Hiroji Kiyotake, to whom we owe the existence of Wario and who defined the relationship inspired by that of American comic icons such as Popeye and Bluto.
