Google Assistant is now truly a companion for sports activities

Earlier this month it emerged that the Google team is working on improving the integration between Google Assistant and some of the health-related features, which will allow users, for example, to leverage Nest Hub to keep tabs on health stats. their physical activities.

In particular, it will be possible to ask Google Assistant to view the statistics of Fitbit and Google Fit on the smartphones and smart displays of the Mountain View giant, which thus turn into a sort of assistant for their workouts.

How to look at health data with Google Assistant

The settings to connect Google Fit and Fitbit to Google Assistant were rolled out earlier this week and should now be available to a wider range of users.

To enable the new feature, simply go to the settings menu dedicated to Google Assistant, then access the Wellness section and select Activities to start the process. Users will have the ability to pair both services (Fitbit and Google Fit) but only one service can be active at a time and it is also easy to log out.

Once the setup process is complete, you will be able to ask Google Assistant on your smartphone (Android and iOS) and Nest Hub for some information such as the following:

  • How many steps have I taken today (or last week)?
  • What is my heart rate today (or resting pulse)?
  • How many calories have I burned?

In the event that Google Fit data is used, it is also possible to obtain information on the training areas (the peak phase, the cardio phase and the “fat-burning” phase).

The responses appear as cards with an accompanying icon and the “Data From” row. The assistant points out that the data is “based on the last synchronization”.

Recall that the Google team has already announced that it plans in the coming months to improve even more the integration between Fitbit and the various products of the Mountain View giant.
