Google TV: Start profiles and other features

Google is rolling out the profile function and other innovations for Google TV. My goodness, that also took a long time. From now on there is finally a profile function for Google TV.

And this time, Google is also rolling out the new feature directly for all users of the TV interface, as the company revealed in its announcement. “Profiles for Google TV will be rolling out for all users in the coming weeks,” was the particularly gratifying sentence.

As the name of the function suggests, you can use it to create multiple profiles for your TV. Each profile is independent of the rest and can therefore be personalized. In a household with several users, this should almost be a must if not everyone shares exactly the same taste.

  • Recommendations tailored for you and only you: As you watch TV, your profile takes into account your interests and likes to help you discover more of what’s out there for you. And for the little ones, you can always set up a child profile so they can access a fun collection of movies and shows under your guidance.
  • Access your own watchlist: If a friend alerts you to a hot new show, you can always add it to your watchlist to save for later. Each Google Account has its own watchlist, so what you find appears right on your profile and stays separate from the lists of others in your household.
  • Help from Google Assistant: Ask for recommendations by saying “What should I watch?” or get help making your day better by saying “Show me my day”. Your profile is linked to your account’s Google Assistant, so you can get the personalized answers you’re looking for.

As mentioned in the introduction, that was not all. Another new feature probably only affects the Chromecast with Google TV.
