Microsoft Releases Windows 11 25126 Dev Preview: Account settings page adjustments, fixes high CPU usage

Early this morning, Microsoft pushed a new preview version of Windows 11 to the testers in the Dev channel, and the system version number was raised to Build 25126, which is an early version of 23H2 (22H2 is still displayed in the system).

This is just a small version update. The Microsoft update announcement brings new improvements to the account settings page, and there is a watermark in this version.

Microsoft introduced subscription management in Settings > Accounts in Windows 11 to help users more easily view subscriptions for Office 2021 or Office 2019 (not yet available to all Insiders). There is only this new feature in the new version, and everything else is bug fixes. According to Microsoft, this is a “nice set of fixes.”

Bug Fix

Universal

  • We fixed an issue that caused a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bugcheck in pci.sys for some Insiders. This issue causes the system to roll back when installing the latest version of the Dev Channel.
  • We’ve worked hard to mitigate an issue that caused some Insiders’ Program Compatibility Assistant service to be unexpectedly CPU-intensive.

Start Menu

  • Fixed unexpected close when editing a folder name in the start menu while the touch keyboard is docked.

Search

  • Fixed a high probability of crashing explorer.exe when using search.

Set up

  • The preview image under Personalization > Lock Screen should no longer be displayed backward when using Arabic or Hebrew display languages.

Task manager

  • Task Manager will no longer hang if explorer.exe has hung.
  • Fixed some Insider context menus not following the same pattern (light or dark).
  • Fixed a bug in the “minimize while in use” prompt.
  • If you have hidden the graph on the side of the Performance page, the color of the circle used now should match the graph in the summary view.
  • Resolved an issue where the unresponsive status of some applications was not reflected on the Processes page.

Windows Sandbox

  • Removed lock option in start menu as it no longer works.

Other

  • Fixed an issue where using “Open All Active Printers” from the printer icon in the system tray would unexpectedly open File Explorer when there was no active queue.

Note: Some of the fixes mentioned in Insider Preview builds on the Dev Channel may be used in servicing updates for Windows 11 release builds.

Known Issues

Universal

  • Some games that use Easy Anti-Cheat may crash or cause your computer to bug check.

Live Captioning

  • Some full-screen applications, such as video players, can interfere with the display of live captions.
  • Some applications located near the top of the screen and closed before Live Captions are running will be restarted after the Live Captions window at the top. When the application has focused, use the system menu (ALT + Spacebar) to move the application’s window further down.
