Microsoft confirms details of Xbox hardware product Keystone developed for XGP cloud gaming

The sound of the Xbox streaming “TV stick” has been circulating for many years, but a new report from Microsoft insiders provides some latest details. Xbox Cloud Gaming already supports multi-platform and device use, such as iOS, Android, Windows, Xbox, and more. Last year, Microsoft announced a new device but never made it public.

As it turns out, Microsoft hasn’t given up on the Xbox Keystone, and the company is still working on a low-cost cloud gaming device for users. In a statement to Windows Central, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that Xbox Keystone is working on a number of tweaks that take the project out of the current iteration.

According to reports, this device code-named “Keystone” does exist, but Microsoft is not in a hurry to launch it, at least not in the near future. And, Microsoft also says they’re looking for something new:

Our vision for Xbox cloud gaming is unwavering and our goal is to enable people to play the games they want on the devices they love, wherever they want. As announced last year, we’ve been working on a game streaming device codenamed Keystone that connects to any TV or monitor without the need for a console.

As part of our technical forays, we are constantly summarizing our efforts, constantly reviewing, learning, exploring, and making sure we bring value to our customers. We have decided to move away from the current version of Keystone devices. We will learn from the lessons and refocus on a new approach that will allow us to offer Xbox cloud gaming to more players around the world in the future.

But unfortunately, there is still no news about the appearance of software for these new products. Windows Central speculates that Keystone could run on a stripped-down version of Windows or Xbox, allowing Microsoft to bundle the device with its services, such as Movies and TV.

Microsoft recently revealed that more than 10 million gamers have used Xbox Cloud Streaming to play games on smartphones, tablets, computers and consoles. Devices like the Keystone can open new doors for users, and the branding behind Xbox and Game Pass will make it easier to succeed. This product is similar to Google Stadia, Google provides users with up to 4K@60 HDR games through Chromecast Ultra.
