Google removes the Movies tab from the Play Store: now everything is done from the Google TV app

As expected, and as anticipated by Google itself, the Mountain View giant has removed the “Movies” tab from the Google Play Store app. To buy, rent or watch movies and shows on Android devices, from now on, users will have to take advantage of the Google TV app, which had for some time been building on the legacy of Google Play Movies as an independent app.

Google Play Store: removed the “Movies” tab

As many will know, the Google Play Film app has been revised and renamed to Google TV in recent months, while still giving the impression that the changes would not stop there.

In recent weeks, by visiting the Movies tab of the Google Play Store, users were greeted by a badge that read ” Soon Play Film will move “: by tapping, the user was then redirected to a screen that explained how, starting from May 2022, Google TV would become the “new entertainment destination”.

As you can see from the gallery below, in the past few hours this change has begun to manifest itself, with Google having eliminated the Film tab from the Google Play Store (in our smartphone, the Google Store is in version 30.6.16-21; to verify the version of the store installed on your smartphone, just follow the path “Settings> Information> Play Store version> Update the Play Store”).

Google reassures users, informing them that purchases already made will be available within the Google TV app and that it will be possible to continue making purchases and rentals, in an identical way to what has been done so far through the Play Store, even within the Google TV app.

This news comes a few days after the graphic restyling made by Big G to the web version of the Google Play Store. It should be noted, for the record, that the Movies tab is still available in the web version of the store.

As confirmed by Google itself, the Google TV app will soon receive an aesthetic renewal according to the Material You canons, but also optimizations for users who use the app via an Android tablet.
