Apple to move some iPad production to Vietnam, sources say

The iPad is the most popular tablet computer product in the world, and its main production area is in China. However, due to factors such as labor costs, the supply chain has changed, and more production capacity may be allocated to Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam. On June 1, according to Flush Financial News, Apple will transfer some iPad production to Vietnam.

In 2020, data shows that 70% of the world’s iPads and nearly 20% of laptops are produced in Chengdu, China. But at present, Apple is intentionally transferring the production capacity of the iPad, and Chengdu may not be able to output 70% of the production capacity.

Currently, the global demand for tablet PCs is not strong. According to data previously released by Canalys, global tablet PC shipments in the first quarter of this year were 38.6 million units, down 3% year-on-year, of which Apple iPad shipments fell 2% to 14.9 million units. However, iPad shipments are still the first, and there is no rival.

In China, a total of 1.2 million iPads were shipped in the first quarter of this year, and although the share was 26%, it fell by 29% year on year. The outside world believes that the reason for this situation has a lot to do with the limited supply of iPad. It is reported that for the production of the 13 series, Apple “borrowed” some of the general-purpose components originally used in the iPad, resulting in a significant decrease in iPad shipments.
