FB becomes history, Facebook will officially become Meta on June 9

Facebook parent Meta announced on Tuesday that it will change the ticker symbol to META before the market opens on June 9, replacing the current FB. Meta said the company’s shareholders do not need to take any action on the ticker change. Facebook has used the FB ticker symbol since its initial public offering (IPO) in 2012.

In October, Facebook changed its name to Meta, saying it was part of an ambition to expand beyond social media. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is particularly interested in building the metaverse. The metaverse is a sci-fi term that refers to working and playing games in a virtual world.

At the time, Meta said it would change the ticker symbol to “MVRS” from December 1. But by late November, Meta announced that it was delaying the adjustment until the first quarter of 2022. Investment firm Roundhill Investments has since announced it will drop the “META” symbol in its Roundhill Ball Metaverse ETF, apparently ceding to Meta.
