Windows 11 23H2 Sun Valley 3 (Copper) kernel compilation data shows it is active

Microsoft recently signed off on Windows 11 22H2 RTM, confirming earlier rumors that it was Insider build 22621. The company also appears to have hinted at the possibility of a full Windows 11 22H2 launch in a few months’ time. With the development of 22H2 almost complete, the Microsoft team has moved on to work on 23H2 or Sun Valley 3 (SV3), which will be the next feature update for Windows 11.

New Dev Channel builds like 25131 and 25120 are also starting to appear, and they hint at features that may be coming to 23H2. References related to the development of Sun Valley 3 have appeared in previous leaks, including one from Microsoft itself.

Today, a leak from Twitter user Tero Alhonen, an active member of the Microsoft and Windows communities, revealed interesting snippets of detail hinting at the progress of Sun Valley 3 kernel development.

First, we seem to be seeing a number of releases of the Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) for several different Windows releases, including the upcoming Windows 11 23H2 developer build, which Microsoft calls the (Copper release).

Another image apparently shows a Windows 11 23H2 Sun Valley 3 source file describing some parameter definitions. The code above uses the NTDDI or NT Device Driver Interface, which Microsoft has generally used to refer to versions of Windows for quite some time.
