Signal: New version of the messenger with improvements in video calls

Messenger Signal has received an update. According to the developer, the central innovation is better data compression for video calls. This should lead to lower energy consumption and thus protect the battery of the smartphone.

The technical improvements for this were implemented in the RingRTC software library developed by Signal. RingRTC is written in the Rust programming language. It serves as the basis for Signal’s voice and video telephony on both Android and iOS.

In addition, numerous small errors have been eliminated in the new version and preparatory work for larger future (but not mentioned) functions have been advanced.
