After weeks of announcements about the final end of the Android Auto smartphone app, Google has probably actually pulled the plug. Users are currently reporting this online, and they can no longer use the app. Exceptions prove the rule.
Now users have no chance
When trying to start the app, users are redirected to the Android Auto settings. There they read the news that Android Auto is now only available on car screens. Means: The phone must be connected to a compatible car or car radio/infotainment.
Android Auto for phone screens has long been on the sidelines anyway. With newer versions of Android, you could no longer use the app. Background: Google has combined Assistant and Maps for the so-called Assistant Driving Mode. However, this reduces the use for navigation again solely on Google Maps.
