Instagram pushes the Reels again with a new feature

Meta continues to focus on video for its Instagram platform and as part of this effort, the company has announced that it is testing a feature that turns video posts into Reels.

A screenshot posted on Twitter by social media consultant Matt Navarra shows that people taking part in the test will see an in-app message alerting them to video posts being shared as Reels.

Instagram tests the conversion of video posts to Reels

The message indicates that if the user’s account is public and the user publishes a video that is transformed into a Reel, anyone can discover it and use the original audio to create their own Reel. If the user’s account is set to private, his Reel will only be visible to his followers.

The message also explains that when the user publishes a Reel, anyone can create a remix with his Reel if the original user’s account is public, however, the original user has the option to prevent other users from remixing his Reels via your account settings.

As with any other test, it is not known when or if Instagram will make this feature available to everyone, however, there are concerns related to horizontal videos, for example, or how this change will affect videos already posted on Instagram.

Meta revealed that Reels now account for more than 20% of the time people spend on Instagram, so it’s no surprise the company is looking to expand them even further, plus competing platforms like TikTok and YouTube pose a serious threat to the. future of Instagram.
