Linux Kernel 5.20 will add support for Intel DG2, Alchemist Arc GPUs

According to Michael Larabel of Phoronix, a technology media, with the unremitting efforts of Intel’s open-source developers, Linux Kernel 5.20 will add support for DG2 and Alchemist Arc graphics desktop GPUs. The kernel also adds support for the server GPU Arctic Sound-M (ATS-M).

During each Linux kernel development cycle, Intel’s development team updates all future releases. Much of the Intel DG2 and Arc Alchemist code is now merged into the i915 Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) driver, some of which has been integrated into the Linux 5.19 kernel.

Currently, Intel has made graphics changes to DRM-Next, as well as preliminary work on Ponte Vecchio Xe-HPC support for server platforms. However, Larabel reports that the “Small BAR” section is still under development.

Small BAR support-related preparations are all final low-level enablement, Intel needs to focus on adding desktop GPU PCI IDs, and the server Arctic Sound-M adapter was submitted yesterday. Intel said: “Small BAR support has landed now, which allows us to add PCI IDs that correspond to add-in card designs for DG2 and ATS-M. An additional MB-down PCI ID (0x5698) has also recently appeared, so we also added it”.
