Meta bows its head to users, is about to launch a new VR login system

Meta modified the login method of the VR headset. Facebook has modified the account login method before, requiring VR headset users to log in through the Facebook App. Users were dissatisfied with this, and Meta finally compromised and revised. Now the new system is finally going to be launched. Zuckerberg tweeted that new “Meta accounts” will be rolled out starting in August.

In 2014, Facebook acquired the VR company Oculus to advance into the VR industry. Facebook later asked users to access the headset through a separate account other than Oculus, and users were dissatisfied with this. Facebook said last year that it would remove the requirement to log in to Facebook.

Now Meta has launched a new login system. In the future, Meta accounts will be used to control device-level access and manage app purchases. Meta Horizon will display the user’s social presence in the VR environment, with user names and avatars.

Of course, users can also connect and unify their profiles in the Meta Accounts Center, which integrates with social connections on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger platforms and becomes part of the VR experience. Chris Cox, Facebook’s chief product officer, sees this approach as a way to increase coherence in the metaverse in the future.

Meta, which has many products under its umbrella, is working hard to integrate accounts and products so that users can enjoy a cross-app experience, while the company can integrate user behavior data in different environments.

In 2019, Meta unified the cross-app information architecture, and later launched the payment service Meta Pay, allowing users to complete transactions across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.
