Pixel users are waiting for the latest update, the promised ‘best of’ for the Pixel 3a isn’t here yet

On Wednesday, Google rolled out the latest Android and Pixel update two days late, which, as hoped, arrived at the same time on all actively supported Pixel smartphones – including the Pixel 6. In fact, an update seems to have been “forgotten”, that was announced some time ago. The last update for the Pixel 3a smartphones was not included.

Google provides the Pixel smartphones with a major security update once a month, which fixes or plugs the most important security gaps and bugs on the smartphones, but sometimes also has functional updates on board. This update guarantee is granted for three years, but at some point, this initially long period is over. The Pixel 3a smartphones have not been officially supported since May 2022, but another update was announced shortly before the last guaranteed update:

In May 2019 at the launch of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, we announced that the devices would receive three years of software updates and three years of security updates from when our devices first became available on the Google Store. The final update for Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will roll out to users by July 2022.

In July, they wanted to bring a kind of best-of update to the smartphones, which would update them one last time. This is now standard practice and has been used by Google on all Pixel phones that have been shelved. But the July round is now over and there was no update for the two Pixel 3a smartphones. Has it not been finished on time, is it exceptionally at a later date or is it postponed to August?

It is not known when the update will follow. But because Google has officially announced it, you have to deliver in some form so the remaining Pixel 3a users can continue to look forward to the latest update.
