Elon Musk: Tesla cockpit overheating protection function is very useful

As the heat wave swept the world, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter that Tesla’s next software update will allow owners to adjust the activation temperature of the cabin overheating protection feature.

Cabin Overheat Protection is a temperature control system on Tesla vehicles that reduces the temperature of the cabin in extremely hot conditions. According to the Model 3 Owner’s Manual, cabin overheating protection can operate for 12 hours after a passenger leaves the vehicle, or until the battery drops to 20 percent charge.

When activated, the function can turn on the fan only, without the air conditioner, or when the temperature in the car exceeds 40°C. According to Musk, the cockpit overheating protection function played a big role in this record high temperature, and after subsequent updates, owners can adjust the activation temperature of the overheat protection function.

In the manual, Tesla warns owners that even with the cockpit overheating protection enabled, their vehicles are still in danger of overheating, and owners should not leave children or pets in their vehicles unattended. Tesla also has other features like dog mode or camp mode if passengers want to stay in the car when parked.
