iOS 16: 10 hidden features in the video

MacRumors have now dug even deeper and presented 10 iOS 16 functions in the video that Apple has not actively advertised before.

  • Pinned Safari Tabs: In the Safari browser you can simply pin tabs to the top, for example, favorites or even entire tab groups.
  • Merge Duplicate Contacts: Duplicate contacts will be listed in the Contacts app. You can easily merge duplicate contacts with one click.
  • Delete Duplicate Photos: iOS 16 detects duplicate photos and can delete them. The Photos app will always keep the best photo, the others will be deleted and you’ll have more space for new ones. There is a new album “Duplicates” in the Photos app for this purpose.
  • Copy and paste changes: Anyone editing a photo in the Photos app can now copy the changes and apply them to another photo.
  • AirPods Updates: In the settings app there is a new area for the AirPods directly in the overview. So you don’t always have to navigate to the settings via the Bluetooth menu.
  • Face ID in landscape mode: With iOS 16, Face ID recognizes your face even when you hold the iPhone in landscape mode. Only for the iPhone 13 and newer.
  • Protect notes with a passcode: While you used to have to choose your own password for notes, with iOS 16 you can also use Face ID and the iPhone’s passcode for them.
  • Haptic feedback when typing: You can now enable haptic feedback in the keyboard settings.
  • Hidden and Recently Deleted: In the Photos app, the two folders “Hidden” and “Recently Deleted” are locked and must be unlocked via Face ID/Touch ID.
  • WiFi password: With iOS 16 you will also be able to see the WiFi password directly. The password is available in the details, but this is only displayed in plain text once you have authenticated yourself via Face ID/Touch ID.

iOS 16 is still in beta testing. The public beta version has also been available for a few days . Release for everyone will be in mid-September.
