OnePlus is about to launch a new phone, and the company revealed that it will be announced at an event in New York on August 3. Dubbed the OnePlus 10T, the phone has Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip inside. The OnePlus devices released in this issue don’t have “Pro” models and continue to use their “T” branding, which OnePlus has been using on and off since the OnePlus 3T debuted in 2016.
OnePlus typically releases two flagships a year, one in the first half of the year and the other in the second half, though the company doesn’t release a second-half range in 2021.
OnePlus says the 10T will carry the tagline “Evolution beyond speed,” though exactly what that means remains a mystery as the only known upgrade right now is the processor. Judging by the invite, the device has a similar design to the 10 Pro, likely featuring a “sandstone” finish similar to the back of the first OnePlus One.
The launch will take place on August 3 at 10 a.m. ET at Gotham Hall in New York and will be broadcast live on the company’s social media channels. Fans in the region can also attend the event in person, with tickets available to “Red Cable Club” members through the OnePlus’ website today, and for others on July 21 for $25.
OnePlus says that anyone who buys a ticket will receive a pair of Nord Buds and “other OnePlus gifts.” The first 50 tickets purchased will receive an additional ticket for free, and the company will have around 400 tickets available.
In addition to the 10T, OnePlus is teasing some additional improvements in its upcoming OxygenOS 13 update, including a new always-on display widget it co-developed with Spotify. The widget will allow users to see song titles, artists and albums on the lock screen, and control audio playback even when the screen is off. OnePlus says “most devices” with OxygenOS 13 will get the feature.
As for devices getting the new software later this year, OnePlus will offer the update to its flagship 8-series (or later) phones, as well as the Nord 2, Nord 2T, Nord CE, Nord CE 2, Nord CE 2 Lite. The new 10T, though due out next month, will ship with Oxygen 12.1 at launch.
