This is how users can accidentally make Google Maps unusable

Google Maps is repeatedly criticized for allowing too many ads and other functions on the maps. This can even make the app almost unusable. It is practical that you can create your own lists and favorite places in Google Maps.

But if you travel a lot and keep a kind of bucket list, it can get totally out of hand at some point. Which leads to a problem that could actually be solved at the touch of a button. We’ll tell you why that doesn’t work.

Google Maps: The list feature can make a huge mess

Google doesn’t offer such a button to hide places. “I have a problem” is the name of a post on Reddit by a user who overuses the Google Maps favorites function. He says he regularly marks places he’d like to visit on the side. Which can completely degenerate after a while. There are currently 19,000 markings that lead to a visible problem.

Google Maps is less and less a classic map app

As I said, that would not be a problem if you could simply hide these favorites. But this is intentionally not possible. The green dots represent the “I want to go” list. Places cannot be hidden from the map view, regardless of whether they are marked or not. Google has something against it, because, above all, Maps mean that we can discover things.

With Maps, Google actually no longer wants to offer a real or classic map app. Instead, Maps is intended to be a place where the user can discover interesting places and interact with them (business customers). It is therefore quite calculated that we cannot hide so-called “points of interest”, shops, etc.
