Google is finally making an effort with Android apps for tablets

One has been able to install Android on tablets for many years, but since 2018 the OS is no longer developed by Google. Google shut down the tablet division and focused on Chrome OS, which was probably a mistake on Google’s part.

They are now trying to correct this because Google is again optimizing Android for tablets and next year there will even be a pixel tablet. But the OS alone is not enough, not even the hardware, the apps are crucial here.

Google optimizes apps for tablets

It’s no use looking at upscaled smartphone apps on 10+ inch displays. Therefore, Google is leading by example and adapting the workspace apps (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Keep) for the tablets.

In a blog entry, Google explains what is changing and notes that it will take a few weeks for the updates to reach all users. There is still a lot of work ahead of Google, but it’s nice to see that something is happening and I’m cautiously optimistic for the coming year (if Google stays on the ball).
