Google: Privacy sandbox needs more time

It will be even longer before Google launches its controversial privacy sandbox on the web and completely blocks third-party cookies. The development of privacy-friendly alternatives to third-party cookies, therefore, takes more time.

Developers can test the interfaces today, and starting in August, testing of the Privacy Sandbox will be expanded to include millions of users worldwide, and then gradually increase the number of participants over the course of the year until 2023, Google said.

Before users are added to the tests, they will be prompted to confirm their participation. The launch of the Privacy Sandbox APIs and their general availability for Chrome users is expected in Q3 2023.
