The last major update for the Google Pixel 4 is coming

Google recently released its latest Android 13 stable update along with the August 2022 security patch update. The Pixel 6 series users have already downloaded the Android 13 stable update and have fun with it. Some other smartphone makers also plan to roll out an Android 13 stable-based update but it is not possible until next year.

A comment a few months ago about the premature end of the Google Pixel 4 was very well received. And now the last major update to the Pixel 6 is just about to arrive. Google speaks of sustainability, as does the entire industry. And yet you don’t do much to ensure that the devices of the last few years are equipped with new software for a little longer. Major Android updates are still only available for three years, which is the case today and was also the case with the Pixel 4.

Google Pixel 4 with Soli hardware is still attractive today

The Pixel 4’s Android update will probably end in October. The last major update for the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL is Android 13 released last night. In general, the Pixel 4 generation has been shaken, as Google has only offered hardware-supported Face Unlock for a year.

Motion Sense was used for gestures, and there was also infrared hardware for face unlock:

Unfortunately, some app developers have addressed the appropriate interface to allow apps to be unlocked using the Pixel 4’s Face Unlock hardware. There was hardly any reason for this, as Motion Sense and its associated hardware were no longer present even with the Pixel 5.

Google only guaranteed security updates for the Pixel 4 for three years

In any case, Android 13 is the last major feature update and the guarantee also ends for security updates. There might be minor final updates after October, that would be typical. This is what Pixel 4 owners can hope for in the future: Google does not provide any information for Pixel Feature Drops. The delivery actually ends with the update guarantee, but that doesn’t have to be carved in stone forever.
