iOS 15.6.1, iPadOS 15.6.1 and macOS Monterey 12.5.1 goes live

According to the latest report, Apple is planning to launch its iPhone 14 series on September 07/2022, which means 20 days after. In this event, Apple introduces iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple Watch 8, iPad 2022, Mac 2022, and AirPods 2 Pro and there may be some other product launches that we do not know.

Apart from this, Apple is officially rolled out iOS 15.6.1iPadOS 15.6.1 and macOS Monterey 12.5.1 for iPhone, iPad and Mac users. Apple follows up here again and mentions important security improvements in the changelog. We’ll take a look later to see if there’s anything more specific about the security gaps that have been closed and then we’ll do it again.

As a reminder, this is what iOS 15.6 brought with it:

  • An issue is fixed where Settings may keep showing that the device memory is full even though there is memory available.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause Braille devices to slow down or become unresponsive when navigating through text in Mail.
  • Fixed an issue in Safari where a tab might bring up a previously visited page.

macOS Monterey 12.5.1 Changelog:

Kernel

  • Impact: An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
  • Description: An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking.
  • CVE-2022-32894: to an anonymous researcher

WebKit

  • Available for: macOS Monterey
  • Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
  • Description: An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking.
