Google sign-in support removing by Fitbit ahead of account transition

The Fitbit by Google brand was added to Fitbit’s most recent devices. Fitbit will require a Google Account to use new devices and features starting in 2023. Fitbit.com is dropping support for Google sign-in as part of its move to a single account system. You can sign in to Fitbit.com at the moment by using Continue with Google or a username and password.

The website also allowed users to sign in with Facebook in 2021, but that feature was eventually removed. The following message has been added to the sign-in page of the Fitbit website. To support an improved user experience, they are eliminating the option to log in to your Fitbit.com account using Google credentials. There is no specific timeframe for when this will take place.

To prepare for this removal, be sure you know the email address and password you use for Fitbit. If you don’t know your password, click Forgot Password

For more information about your Fitbit account, including how to find and change your email address, see our help article.

All Fitbit users should be aware that the Android and iOS apps already require their email addresses and password. If you haven’t already, you should change your password and reset it. As a result of this change, Fitbit accounts will be replaced by standard Google accounts, eliminating the need for two distinct systems.

Users will be able to use their existing Fitbit accounts until 2025, but new features and device setup will require a Google Account.

Google touts features like industry-leading account security, centralized privacy controls for Fitbit user data, and more features from Google on Fitbit in addition to access to new features.

Lastly, you will need to “consent to transfer your Fitbit user data from Fitbit to Google” when this consolidation begins. There is currently no timetable for when this will occur.
