The curtains, heaters, washing machines, refrigerators, and other smart home devices appear to be getting better support from the Google Home app.

Google has also been making adjustments to the app’s overall functionality as the new design of the Google Home app has been slowly made available in early previews. Changes to the “favorites” tab, a new lockscreen shortcut, Nest Wifi controls, and Matter-related features are all included. Additionally, the app got better control over TVs, Xbox consoles, and other similar devices like the Philips Hue Sync box.
Google has been expanding the Home app’s support for additional smart home devices over the past few weeks. As we reported this week, we have seen the capability to view live feeds from a greater number of smart home cameras, as well as new designs and expanded functionality for smart home devices.
GHomeFrance discovered several reworked interfaces for a variety of device types. Window screens and shades currently have a sliding bar to establish where the screen or drape should open. We saw this connection point on two or three sensors, however, that has all the earmarks of being in blunder. Along with the standard on/off switch, heaters and diffusers now also have settings for various modes.
In addition, updates have been made to other smart home appliances. We noticed that an LG refrigerator can now have certain modes, such as the air filter and ice maker, controlled through the Home app. Additionally, ovens can now show more modes and settings alongside toggles and other controls. In the past, that appliance could only display in the app and had no other capabilities.
Lastly, the Home app now includes improved control over robot lawnmowers with controls comparable to robot vacuums. Additional devices have likely been improved over the past few months, and all of them look great. The Home app is very useful and is quickly becoming the hub for all smart home equipment.
