Gmail and Docs gets generative AI to 10x more Trusted Testers

Gmail and Docs getting public test generative AI by Google in late March. Now Google explained that adding the Trusted Tester program for generative AI ability by more than 10X. This program is now available to invite US English Testers and is known as Labs in Google Workspace.

Users will see the new Help me write button in the web version and on the phone version they will see the floating action button(FAB). Users can open a purple-hued text field to enter messages. Google advises users:

Start with at least 6 words. For better results, consider including the recipient, the topic, and the tone you want to convey in your prompt. For example: “An apology to my child’s teacher for their absence.”

When it is generated then you can Recreat or Refine it with these four choices before entering:

  1. Formalize: Makes the draft more formal.
  2. Elaborate: Adds detail to build upon the text.
  3. Shorten: SHortens the draft.
  4. I’m Feeling Lucky: Updates draft with creative details.

With Help me write button available in Google Docs which shows as a big pill on the left of the text area. The company provides some phrasing prompts as interactions, on the other hand, Google Docs offers a summary capability:

  1. Copy the text.
  2. On the left, click Help me write(Labs).
  3. Write summarize and paste the text
