Netflix introduces frame rate matching support for Google TV and Android TV

Netflix has announced the inclusion of frame rate matching functionality on Android TV OS, which will be available on Google TV devices such as Chromecast.

With the addition of frame rate matching in Android TV OS 12, televisions can now synchronize the frame rate of the displayed content, ensuring a seamless viewing experience by reducing visual disturbances commonly known as “jutter.”

According to a report by FlatPanelsHD, the latest update of the Netflix application for Google TV and Android TV now supports frame rate matching. During their evaluation, the publication observed that the updated Netflix app adjusts the frame rate based on the specific content being viewed. For instance, The Witcher played at 24 frames per second (fps), while the documentary titled Arnold played at 23.976 fps.

While frame rate matching may not be the sole factor determining the quality of a viewing experience, it is undoubtedly a welcomed enhancement that can contribute to overall improvements, even if users are not necessarily aware of its underlying mechanism. Notably, Netflix stands out as one of the few major streaming platforms offering frame rate matching support on Android TV OS.
