Samsung commences development of innovative ‘Galaxy Pulse’ Smart Ring

Samsung has recently embarked on the development of an innovative smart device, tentatively named ‘Galaxy Pulse,’ in the form of a sleek wearable ring, according to credible sources at TheElec. The ‘Galaxy Pulse’ is poised to incorporate cutting-edge circuit boards, skillfully manufactured by Japan’s renowned Meiko company, to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Smart rings, wearable devices worn like conventional rings, boast an array of built-in sensors designed to gather vital health data from users and seamlessly transmit it to their smartphones.

Finnish firm Oura has successfully introduced smart rings equipped with a range of sensors, a high-performing battery, and Bluetooth support. Weighing between 4 to 6 grams, these rings offer an impressive week-long battery life, requiring only 80 minutes of charging, as reported by the company.

Samsung’s ‘Galaxy Pulse’ project is underway; however, the exact product launch date remains uncertain at this stage. The company is likely to initiate mass production of the rings after thorough evaluation and fine-tuning of the prototype developed in collaboration with Meiko.

Notably, smart rings possess a unique advantage over smartwatches, as their close proximity to the wearer’s body may enable more precise health measurements. Nonetheless, it is essential to carefully address potential challenges such as the weaker blood flow in fingers compared to wrists, which could impact measurement accuracy if the ring fits too tightly.

Furthermore, Samsung is actively preparing for the launch of an augmented reality headset, initially scheduled for late 2023. However, the company has decided to delay the launch due to concerns over display quality when compared to Apple’s OLED on silicon technology featured in Vision Pro. Additionally, the lack of sufficient content for the device also played a role in the postponement, according to industry sources.
