Google Photos Android update offers glimpse of redesigned tab menu for other Google apps

Google has been consistently refining its Android apps, favoring a more streamlined design by removing left-edge menus. Instead, many apps now feature a top search bar and a menu accessible through the profile picture, with additional tabs at the bottom in a dedicated menu bar, depending on the app’s structure.

Recently, a leaked preview sheds light on Google’s upcoming redesign for the tab menu at the bottom of the screen. The changes, currently observed in Google Photos, showcase a floating menu that distinctively stands out, boasting more rounded shapes to harmonize better with the overall Android aesthetics. Moreover, Google Photos introduces a novel menu item structure.

Given the potential benefits of this design, it is highly likely that Google will incorporate it into other Android apps as well. Among the apps that could potentially see this redesign are Google Keep, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Play Store, Podcasts, and numerous others.
